Education is changing in school due to the iPad

A $1.3 million stimulus grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has given Prince George's County the ability to purchase 3,000 iPads for students at four middle schools to determine whether improved classroom resources increase the quality of learning, reported the Baltimore Sun.

Students are using iPads to take notes, study for quizzes and review homework, while teachers are using the technology to improve efficiency in the classroom and identity areas of need for each student, according to the newspaper.

"I can't stand paper," Christina Jerome, an eighth-grade teacher whose students are using the iPad, told the paper. "If I have the students use the eClicker app on the iPad, I can immediately see how many students got the right answer and which students need help."

The paper said using the iPads is a special treat for many of the students in the county because a majority of them meet the qualification for free or reduced-price lunches, also known as Title I schools.

To assure the safety of iPad use in schools, Rover for Education recently announced new features to its iPad app that allow teachers to communicate with IT administrators at their schools to make sure that the firewalls are configured properly.
