Educators use Twitter to shape education

Education World recently hosted a Twitter chat featuring a number of educational and professional experts offering tips on 21st century skills and professional development opportunities for students.

"Twitter reduces the sense of isolation we often feel as educators and is a great way to access free, cutting-edge professional development tips," said Sarah Caron, social media editor at Education World. "At Education World, we maximize the potential of this platform by regularly sending informative tweets - make sure to follow @Education_World on Twitter to receive these."

A few of the participants in the Twitter chat were Heather Beaven, CEO of the Florida Endowment Foundation for Florida’s Graduates and Dr. Robert Neuman, former dean of academic advising for Marquette University, who offered insights that can be found on the Education World Community, which composed a list of the top 12 tweets from the chat.

British Columbia Education Minister George Abbott is also turning to the power of Twitter to improve the quality of education for students in his province.

Abbott plans to hold a Twitter chat to receive feedback on BC's Education Plan, seeking responses from teachers, students, parents and administrators.
