Educational grants in Illinois being used in a wide range of areas
According to the suburban Chicago Barrington Courier-Review, the District 220 Educational Foundation recently announced the recipients of educational grants that will give teachers and other administrators with supplies and instructional material.
These 19 Helping Hands grants that were handed out added up to more than $8,200, making sure each entity received up to $550, said the paper.
"Helping Hands grants have to serve an educational purpose," Deanna Griffin, the foundation’s publicity chairperson, told the paper. "They have to be sustainable and have to fit into the technology of the district, but they don’t have to be technology."
Barrington Middle School received $485, which helped helped it create a Summer Reading Buddies program aimed at helping under-performing students improve their reading comprehension, said the paper.
Another educational grant program in Illinois comes from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, which administered more than 199,00 grants and scholarships in 2010, which totaled more than $429 million, according to the Morris Daily Herald.
The paper said ISAC works on a number of programs and innovations that work to promote postsecondary education.
